Celebrate the Life of Barbara Bush!

On April 17, 2018, former First Lady Barbara Bush died at the age of 92 after an extended illness. One of the most extraordinary and highly respected women in American history, she was also just the second person who was both husband to one President and mother to another.

Barbara Pierce – an ancestor of the 14th President, Franklin Pierce – married World War II hero George H.W. Bush in 1945. She had six children while her husband made his fortune in the oil business in Texas and embarked on a political career that saw him serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, as ambassador to the United Nations, and as director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

In 1980, George H.W. Bush was elected Vice President alongside Ronald Reagan, and it was during her eight years as Second Lady that Barbara became known for her humanitarian causes – and her biting wit. George H.W. Bush was elected President in 1988, and as First Lady Barbara focused on literacy and developed the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. She was much beloved by the American public.

Barbara Bush’s oldest son, George W. Bush, was elected President in 2000, making Barbara the second First Lady after Abigail Adams to become the mother of a President – and the first see her son serve as President. Another son, Jeb, was governor of Florida. At the time of her death, Barbara’s husband was 93.

Now, as we look back on the life of a great American, you can celebrate Barbara Bush’s unique place in American history with these special limited-edition commemoratives. Order now, because they won’t last long!
