Obverse: Portrait of Pope Francis

Reverse: depicts the 3 domes of the Papal visit to Washington DC. The center dome is the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The right dome is our nation’s capital and the left dome is the Cathedral of St. Matthews.

From September 22-27, 2015, Pope Francis made his first papal visit to the United States. The first stop was Washington DC where Francis met with President Barack Obama at the White House, celebrated an outdoor mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conceptions and became the first Pope to address a joint session of the US Congress. From Washington, DC, Francis traveled to New York City for an address to the United Nations on September 25. The Pope’s US visit concluded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he attended the World Meeting of Families and celebrated an outdoor Mass on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway before departing on September 27.
