The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was introduced in 1979 to replace the dollar bill. The Anthony Dollar was first minted in 1979 and was America’s first small-size Dollar coin. It was the first circulating coin to feature an identifiable woman.
It depicts Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906), the woman’s rights pioneer whose work led to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution that assures women the right to vote.
The reverse is an adaptation of the official Apollo 11 mission patch; it shows an American eagle landing on the moon, with the Earth above its head.
This historic coin was made only from 1979-1981 and again in 1999. However, the 1981 coins are unique because no coins were made for circulation. The only coins in 1981 were those struck for collectors and included in official Mint Sets and Proof Sets from the U.S. Mint. As a result, the 1981 Anthony Dollar is the rarest year of issue and was never seen in circulation even in 1981. You get one of each mint mark - Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. The "S" Mint is a rarely seen business strike.
These historic coins are hand-selected in original Brilliant Uncirculated condition, so they are just as fresh and beautiful as the day they were struck. It is displayed in a custom presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity.
